You’ll Never Create Boring Print Projects Again
If you’ve ever been guilty of creating humdrum business cards, lackluster newsletters filled with nothing but text, or mailing labels as exciting to read as an eye chart, it might be time for a change. Adding photos, stock images or clip art can help you break through the blahs and enhance any message or project. For starters, we’ll give you tips to create your own image library. Then we’ll show you how to kick boring-looking projects to the curb by simply adding images.

Create an Image Library

If you already have images or plan on saving more, consider creating a designated place for them on your computer. Having one central location makes it easier to find and access images when you need them. Just create a file location on your computer where you can download or store your images. If you have quite a few images, you may want to create categories within your library to keep them organized. For example, your categories might be based on theme, color scheme or specific project name. And remember, when saving or using images, make sure the file type is compatible with the software program you’re using. If you’re not sure what file type is compatible, check your software program user’s manual.

Add Images to Your Projects

Whether you want to start from scratch with a blank template or begin with a pre-designed template, Avery offers a variety of templates and software to customize your printing project. Here’s how to add images using a template or software program.

Avery Templates
Select from templates specially designed for Microsoft® Word, Adobe® Illustrator, Adobe® Photoshop, or Adobe® InDesign and simply download the template of your choice.

In Microsoft® Word:
1. Open the Avery Template in the Microsoft® program.
2. To find the image you want to use, go to the Insert menu. From the drop down menu, go to Picture and select From File. From the Insert Picture box, locate your image and click it so the name appears in the File Name field.
3. To add the image to the template, click Insert.

In Adobe® Illustrator, Photoshop or InDesign:
1. Open the Avery Template in the Adobe® program.
2. To find the image you want to use, go to the File menu and choose Place. Once you’ve found the image, press the Place button.

Avery Wizard for Microsoft® Office
This program works within Microsoft® Office and appears as a button in your toolbar. To start, download and install the free Avery Wizard software.

1. After the installation, start the Microsoft® program and click on the Avery icon in your toolbar to launch the Avery Wizard.
2. Follow the step-by-step instructions to select your Avery product and add text to the template.
3. When you get to Customize, Design and Select Print Options, click the Insert Clip Art button to open the Insert Picture box.
4. To add the image, locate the image you wish to add so it appears in the File Name field, then click the Insert button.

Avery Design & Print Online
This program works with PC, Mac® or Linux® systems, and there’s no need to download any software. You just need Internet access and Adobe® Flash and Reader. Adobe® software can be downloaded free from the Adobe® web site.

1. Go to Avery Design & Print Online, then select from one of three choices: Create Project by Product Type, Create Project by Design or Open a Saved Project.
2. To add an image, select a project that already incorporates an image or background (not a blank project).
3. Follow the step-by-step instructions and add your personalized information.
4. When you get to Personalize Your Font and Background, you’ll be able to replace the placeholder image or background with your own.

Whether you’re adding a company logo, personal photo or your own unique design, use images to turn something ordinary and boring into a polished, professional-looking printing project.
